	Return to Blog Read or Post Comments IT IS TIME TO STAND UP, SUPPORT AND ENDORSE THE MDUSD SCHOOL QUALITY PROTECTION MEASURE 2009 - a long name for what will essentially offset the actions of the state. Are you in? Monday, February 23, 2009 This email below that I received will be making its way to everyone. Please forward a link to this page to all your friends - Time is short to get this rolling and the governor of California has already acted. The Emergency Budget Plan signed by the Governor on February 20^th , will require another $7 to 8 million in cuts for 2009-2010 alone. This will be devastating to the program offering for our students, devastating for our employees, and devastating for our community. The MDUSD School Quality Protection Measure of 2009 asks each parcel owner to invest $99 annually in public education and for our children. This represents $1.91 a week and will generate more than $7 million in funding annually for five years. These local funds cannot be diverted by state policy makers. A senior exemption will be available and an oversight committee will be established to ensure accountability. The Community for Excellent Schools Committee members would be pleased to provide additional information or make a personal presentation. There is much discussion about the validity of a parcel tax, much doubt remaining as to the effectiveness of it within this district that has had much contention over the past few years; however, agree or not, the fact remains that the Governor has impacted our district to the tune of about $7 or 8 million in added cuts to the prior goal of $6.6 million that the board is finalizing through this month. This WILL impact everyone. Programs not covered by federal or state mandate, will be cut. In other districts schools are closing down in an effort to save money. Whether you like or agree with the board of education or not, this parcel tax will at least reverse, in part, what the Governor has done. In addition, the monies cannot be used for administrative costs, the state cannot touch it and spending will be overseen by a citizens panel. Print the picture out full size and mail or fax it in.
